Día de Reyes Magos en Montpellier / the wise men celebration at school

Los alumnos de Montpellier celebraron la fiesta de los Reyes Magos en el colegio. En Francia no es un día festivo pero comemos "la galette" o "le royaume" el día de la Epifanía.
Este es la explicación de Lesly y Alexis: " Comemos "la galette" o "le royaume"el 6 de enero. El más joven del grupo se pone debajo de la mesa y dicta el nombre de cada uno para darle una parte de pastel. Después, todos comemos "la galette".  Dentro del pastel se esconde una "fève",una figurita. El que la encuentra tiene que ponerse la corona y se convierte en el Rey del día."

The students from Montpellier had the Wise Men celebration at school. It's not a bank holiday in France but people always eat epiphany cake on january the 6th. The youngest goes under the table and calls out the name of the one who is getting the piece of cake. Then,everyone shares the cake. The person who gets the "lucky charm"(a tiny character inside the cake) wears the crown and becomes the queen or the king. Today, Alan Blanchet is our king!

The cake traditionally celebrating Epiphany in France  is sold in most bakeries during the month of January. Two versions exist: the cake called "galette des roes" (which can be either circular or rectangular) consists of flaky puff pastry layers with a dense center of frangipane. In southern France - Occitania, Roussillon, Provence where it´s called "gâteau des rois or royaume", is a torus-shaped brioche with candied fruits and sugar, similar in its shape and colours to a crown.

Chamallow & Tagada en México

El pasado 13 de Diciembre, una semana antes de nuestras vacaciones, llegó a la ciudad de México Chamallow acompañado de el osito Tagada. Llegaron justo a tiempo para su primer paseo, así que en cuanto pisaron la ciudad tuvieron que salir corriendo con nuestra amiga Valeria al aeropuerto, ya que su primer salida fue hacia las bahías de Huatulco, en el estado de Oaxaca.

Regresaron a la ciudad de México el 19 de Diciembre, con una agenda aún muy apretada, para tomar caminos diferentes ese mismo día e irse inmediatamente a pasar las fiestas (Navidad, Año Nuevo y Día de Reyes), en diferentes estados del país. Chamallow se fue de vacaciones a Michoacán, con Jorge. Tagada celebró las fiestas en las playas de Acapulco, en Guerrero, con Vanessa y Mónica.

On December 13th, one week before holidays, Chamallow and the little bear Tagada arrived in Mexico City. They were just in time for their first tour, so immediately after the arrival they went to the airport with our friend Valeria, they visited Huatulco bays in the state of Oaxaca.

They came back to Mexico City on December 19th, with a tight schedule, that day they went different ways to spend the holidays (Christmas, New Year and Three Kings Day). Chamallow spent the vacation with Jorge in the state of Michoacan. Tagada celebrated with Mónica and Vanessa in Acapulco Bay, in the state of Guerrero.

Three Kings' Day / Día de Reyes

Today we celebrate Three Kings’ Day. Every January 6th, children in Mexico celebrate Three Kings’ Day asking for and receiving toys and gifts for the Three Wise Men. 

Days before, they write a letter to the Three Wise Men asking for presents; then they send the letter to the sky tied to a flying balloon. On January 6^th they receive their presents depending on if they was naughty or good guys during the last year. The Magi usually put the presents next to one of your shoes.

At night families have a special dinner with a special round bread called “Rosca de Reyes”, that Rosca has fruit ornaments like the ornaments in a crown; in the inside there are some baby Jesus dolls, if you find one of them, you’ll have to make a party with tamales on February 2^nd. (Candlemas). 

Hoy celebramos el Día de los tres Reyes Magos. Cada 6 de Enero los niños celebran el Día de Reyes pidiéndole (y recibiendo) regalos a los Reyes Magos.

Durante los primeros días de Enero escriben su carta a los tres Reyes de Oriente pidiéndoles regalos, luego la mandan atada a un globo de gas. El 6 de Enero reciben sus regalos dependiendo de su comportamiento durante todo el año anterior. Por lo general los Reyes Magos acostumbran dejar los regalos al lado de uno de tus zapatos.

Esa noche, en cada familia hay una cena especial con Rosca de Reyes, una rosca adornada con azúcar y fruta de forma que parezcan los adornos de una corona. Dentro de la rosca están escondidos algunos muñequitos del Niños Jesús; si encuentras uno debes hacer una fiesta con tamales el Día de la Candelaria, 2 de Febrero.
