Farewell, Mr. Apple!

Mr. Apple headed back to Brooklyn this afternoon; he should arrive before your last day of school.

Before he jumped in the shipping box at the post office, he stopped off at Sweetwater's (a local tourist-y shop) to pick up some chocolate-cherry taffy to bring home to our new friends. He also took a few minutes to visit one of our marinas and sat a while, watching the boats cruise in and out of their slips. He enjoyed the fresh (and very HUMID) Lake Michigan breeze, listened to the seagulls call to each other, and decided it was time to head back to the familiar sights and sounds of Brooklyn.

I hope he took a really deep breath!

Mr. Apple Meets the Yankees

Ms. Wilson is taking Mr. Apple to Wrigley Field in Chicago (home of the Chicago Cubs baseball team) tonight. She's a HUGE Yankees fan and is excited to take a "local" New Yorker with her to cheer on her team. Surely, Mr. Apple is a Yankees fan?! He is tight-lipped about his loyalties, but seems cheerful enough to keep Ms. Wilson company. Now, it's supposed to rain, complete with thunder and lightning, so the game might be rescheduled. If not, I should have some AWESOME pictures to share Wednesday morning. Let's go YANKEES! (Hey, they're playing the Cubs - boooooo! - so a win is in the bag)

Mr. Apple: Big City, Meet Small Town!

Mr. Apple arrived some time ago - during our busiest time of year - and I have been remiss in posting about his adventures. So far, he's gone biking with the entire school, been on an adventurous overnight field trip, hung out at students' homes, and visited our local marina. This weekend, he's going to a fun carnival called St. Mary's Festival; there will be rides, games, and lots of deep-fried everything! We'll be SURE to keep you posted this time.

Farewell Sushi party with Bucky!

We took Bucky to Kaiten-zushi, a sushi-go-round restaurant!

"Kaiten-zushi is a sushi restaurant where the plates with the sushi are placed on a rotating conveyor belt that winds through the restaurant and moves past every table and counter seat. Customers may place special orders, but most simply pick their selections from a steady stream of fresh sushi moving along the conveyor belt. The final bill is based on the number and type of plates of the consumed sushi. Some restaurants use a fancier presentation such as miniature wooden "sushi boats" traveling small canals or miniature locomotive cars."

We had Bucky's farewell party at Sushiro.

Hiratsuka City Museum with Bucky

We went to our city's museum to tell Backy about our home town's history and culture.

Hiratsuka City Museum opened in 1976.The theme of the museum is the nature and culture of Sagami River area. This museum is now known as an active local museum all over the country.Many students and citizens visit the museum, look at the exhibition, and participate in the workshops.

Bucky went to Tokyo

Bucky had a short trip to Tokyo with teacher's family.

It takes an hour by Tokaido-line train from Hiratsuka, our town, to Tokyo.

Took a bus to Akashicho from Tokyo station.

Beautiful cherry blossoms!

 

Hanami party under the cherry blossoms.

 "Hanami (cherry blossom viewing)" in Japan often involves a picnic party to enjoy cherry blossoms as well as food and drinks. People have a Hanami party with friends, family or colleagues under the cherry tree and have fun. It seems the dazzling cherry blossoms in full bloom make many people get higher than usual. But there are manners and a certain way to have a Hanami party. And a good preparation may help you to enjoy the party even more. Why not enjoy spring in the Japanese way.

Odaiba is in the waterfront area and a definite must-see place in Tokyo where the whole family can enjoy the day. The cool breeze from the sea enhances the joy of roaming around the popular place for entertainment, eating and shopping.

First, we went to Tokyo Water Science Museum!

A hands-on museum that introduces the wonder and importance of water from a scientific viewpoint, and develops an interest in water and water supply services, produced by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Bureau of Waterworks.

It sells both cold and hot beverages including corn soup.

RiSuPia

Risupia, located in the Panasonic Center of Tokyo, is a hands-on museum that enables you to experience the fascination of science and mathematics.

 

 

 

At the entrance you will receive Discovery Scope.

 

You go on a journey together with virtual Discovery Assistant

in the scope in your hands.

 

 

I could not take pictures after instruction how to use the scope.

They do not allow to take any photo inside the museum without the quest floor.

We took Yurikamome, mono-rail line from Ariake to Simbashi.
